The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center
Fauna Project

The morning was warm and sunny as a team of nine completed this week's survey. While central Texas is known for having a number of rare endemic aquatic salamanders, the Slimy Salamander shown below is more widespread. It belongs to a family called the lungless salamanders and breathes through its skin, which is coated with a very adhesive mucous.
