The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center
Fauna Project

Eight volunteers participated this morning, which began frosty but quickly warmed under mostly sunny conditions. While many butterflies spread their wings to help focus solar rays on their flight muscles, a few never bask that way. The sulphurs are a good example; the Dainty Sulphur shown below always keeps its wings closed and simply turns broadside to the sun.
