The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center
Fauna Project

With the arrival of a cool front the previous day, the weather was delightfully mild and sunny as eight volunteers conducted this week's survey. As autumn approaches, several arthropods are completing their annual life cycle. The swollen abdomens of the female Garden Spider, Green Lynx and Carolina Mantis shown below indicate they are ready to lay their eggs. By the time the weather turns cold, they will die.
