Fauna Project

It was hot and partly cloudy as twelve people participated in this week's survey. The animals we see are not always the perfect picture of health. The toad shown below is so emaciated that its bones are evident beneath its skin. The long, pointy bone at its rear is the urostyle, a series of fused sacral vertebrae that replace the tail in frogs and toads.
