The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center
Fauna Project

A team of nine completed this week's survey on a hot and sunny morning. Lizards, like all reptiles, amphibians and birds, excrete both urine and feces from the same opening, the cloaca. Each dropping has two parts: the chalky white bit is concentrated (because lizards conserve their moisture) uric acid and the brown is the fecal material. See image below.
