It was a hot and sunny morning as six people participated in this week's survey. Mantises have an incomplete metamorphosis life cycle (no pupa). While nymphs do not have functional wings, the developing wing pads are very obvious, especially just before the insect molts for the last time and becomes an adult. See the comparison photos below.
