The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center
Fauna Project

We had a hot and mostly sunny day as seven volunteers participated in this week's survey. It is very likely that the dead narrowmouth toad we found in one of the ponds (see photo below) drowned during the intense recent rains. These small secretive amphibians eat ants and other insects; they live in burrows or under rocks, frequently cohabiting with rodents, reptiles or tarantulas.
