Fauna Project

For the first time this year, the weather for our survey was almost warm, although it was heavily overcast with occasional drizzle. Six volunteers participated. Midges are a large group of very small flies (often only a few millimeters long) that are an important component of the food web. Most species have clear wings and are difficult to identify beyond family, but a few have dark markings; two are shown below.
