The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center
Fauna Project

A team of four completed this week's survey under hot and mostly overcast conditions. Many caterpillars have colors or shapes that match their host plants and therefore allow them to elude predators. The Camouflaged Looper takes a more active role and decorates itself with bits of the plant it is eating. When the larva molts, the debris is also shed, so it must add fresh pieces.
