Fauna Project

Our team of four volunteers enjoyed delightfully cool and mostly sunny conditions during this week's survey. Flies in the family Drosophilidae (commonly called vinegar flies) are best known for their use in laboratory studies of genetics. The colorful species we found this time, shown below, was recently introduced from Africa. It was first reported from Florida in 2005.
