Fauna Project

Our party of three completed this week's survey under overcast skies and high temperatures. The lack of sunshine early in the day reduced the number of butterfly sightings. We did, however, find more caterpillars than during the past few weeks. One interesting find was a Brazilian Skipper pupa, concealed in a leaf. This is one of our largest skippers and its proboscis is so long that, on the pupa, it extends beyond the rear end (see image below).
